More Silverware for Marlon

Marlon Daniels, a claims champion in the Joburg office, recently competed in the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships held in Potchefstroom.

With competitors from the Canada, England and Trinidad & Tobago, to name a few as well as men and women of all ages the competition was definitely going to be tough.

Marlon rose to the challenge and more than delivered in the under 83kg Masters 1 category.

Master’s being for athletes over the age of 40. Having completed his squat routine, he stepped up to do the bench press and broke the Commonwealth record on his first attempt with an impressive 155kg press!

Not to be idle he added a further 8kg onto this and broke his own record with a 163kg press. His third and final press at 165kg was just that much for him but he walked away with two records.

He then proceeded onto the third discipline, being the deadlift where he again outperformed his competition.

Here are his results:

Squat: 210, 222,5 and 235,5kg

Bench Press: 155, 163, and 165kg

Deadlift: 195, 217,5 and 242,5kg

Total: 616kg

He did more than enough to win his division and attain the Commonwealth title for 2017.

Overall, South Africa came first at the championships with India and Northern Ireland following.

We couldn’t be more proud of Marlon and look forward to what he can do in the future in the powerlifting world as well as in the claims department where we strive for excellence too.
