BMW Car Club Gauteng hosted its 43rd annual iTOO Concours d’Elegance yesterday (25 August 2024), a celebration of automotive elegance and excellence that attracts hundreds of car enthusiasts and BMW owners each year.

The iTOO Concours d’Elegance, the most prestigious event on the BMW Car Club’s calendar, has become renowned for its celebration of automotive artistry and engineering, allowing BWM owners to bring their cars to display and participate in the competition.

Held this year in the Park of the Mall of Africa, in Midrand, the Concours forms a key part of the BMW Car Club’s activities. The emphasis of the event is on modern classic BMWs, the icons of the last six decades that have made the BMW brand the universal success it is today.

“As the title sponsor, iTOO is very proud to be associated with the Concours d’Elegance and with the BMW brand. BMW is an extremely popular premium brand that is associated with excellence, ingenuity and quality. These are values that iTOO also espouses as a special risks insurer,” says Gail Bosch, Product Head of iTOO Artinsure.

“iTOO specialises in the insurance of classic and vintage cars and bikes, hence it has been very special for us to support this event. The iTOO Concours d’Elegance is an event that celebrates the history and pedigree of BMW, bringing together many fans and aficionados.”

BMW owners can enter their cars into four different categories at Concours d’Elegance, namely Show & Shine, d’Etat, d’Elegance, d’Honneur Preserved and d’Honneur Restored. Over and above these categories, judges also hand out floating trophies for Best Classic. Best Classic Coupe, Best 2002, Best E30/325iS and Best M Car, among others.

Other than a car needing to be a genuine BMW product, judges also look for quality, originality and cleanliness. Inspectors even use an earbud to check for cleanliness on different parts of the car, such as the rims, under the bonnet, under the car and on the windscreen.

Bosch explains it is a privilege for iTOO to support such a longstanding and worthy event, which is well aligned with the specialist insurer’s offerings.

“The iTOO Concours d’Elegance is indeed an event that is close to our hearts at iTOO. Our passion and understanding of the collector market naturally aligns us with this esteemed motoring showcase,” she says, adding that iTOO’s Classic Car insurance policy offerings are specifically tailored to meet the insurance needs of the Classic Car and Classic Motorcycle collector community.

“iTOO understands that classic cars require specialist valuations and claims handling techniques. Methodologies vary greatly from standard motor insurance, which is why at iTOO our insurance for classic cars has been designed by leading industry experts, who are all collectors themselves.

“We would like to congratulate all the winners, participants and organisers for making this year’s rally such a special and successful event. We certainly look forward to being associated with the BMW Concours d’Elegance for many more years to come,” Bosch concludes.
