One way the iTOO team can describe 2024 so far is at a gallop. Believe it or not, by the end of March, Q1 will be at an end but we have some exciting prospects lined up from now, till then.
One of the biggies we are proud to be part of as title sponsor is the 2024 DJ Rally. Let’s jump in shall we? First staged between Durban and Johannesburg in 1913, the motorcycle race which evolved into a world-famous event had riders vying for the coveted Schlesinger Vase. First run well over 100 years ago, there were no roads and many of the surfaces were a test of mechanical durability and rider grit. Eventually banned, the event was resurrected in 1970 as a regularity trial and 2024 will have two-wheeled contenders commence yet again from Hillcrest in Kwa-Zulu Natal on Day 1, and finish in Newcastle, before leaving the town and finishing in Benoni at the end of Day 2. Over 80 pre-1937 motorcycles will be taking part in the event between the 15th and 16th of March, a date which coincides with another event iTOO is affiliated with – the Cape 1000 which runs from the 10th to the 15th around the chiselled and ribboned tarmac of the Western Cape.
Dubbed South Africa’s most beautiful drive, the event has garnered a significant reputation spanning 4 days, 5 nights and over 60 four-wheeled icons from yesteryear modern as well?. Variety is the spice of life and the fuel to the Cape 1000 by limiting the number of entrants to satisfy the 3 separate categories including pre-1977 Classics, 1977-1996 Modern Classics and 1997-2023 Sports Cars. Starting and ending at the picturesque V&A Waterfront, all contenders here will complete the regularity stages to George and Hermanus for the overall honours. Looking at some of the prized and pristine machinery that has competed in the illustrious event in the past, we believe it is called the most beautiful drive not for the scenic routes it traverses along but rather for the content of vehicles that venture out of the confines of museums and garages for the event!
Two wheels and four, we can insure them all! Stay tuned for our coverage of both events.
